Jumpstart Foundry has invested $150,000 USD in Athel AI.

For a company built in Ontario and selling on both sides of the border, backing from one of the most active healthcare pre-seed funds in the United States is a meaningful signal — and a practical one.

About Jumpstart Foundry

Jumpstart Foundry (JSF) is a pre-seed healthcare innovation fund based in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 2010, it is part of the Jumpstart Health Investors platform and has become one of the most active funds of its kind in the United States, making roughly 30 to 50 investments in early-stage healthcare companies each year.

Its model is deliberately standardised: a $150,000 investment made through a SAFE, which spares early companies the legal cost and negotiation overhead of a bespoke round at the stage where neither is a good use of a founder's time.

JSF invests in health technology, digital health, tech-enabled services, consumer health and diagnostic devices. It explicitly does not invest in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals or life sciences — the fund is built around capital-efficient healthcare solutions rather than businesses requiring long clinical trial cycles.

What the cohort gets

The capital is the smallest part. JSF companies gain access to a curriculum built specifically for healthcare founders, covering the problems that actually stop health software from scaling: HIPAA compliance, reimbursement, and selling into provider organisations.

Just as importantly, they gain access to Nashville's healthcare network. Nashville is the operational centre of American healthcare services, and JSF's connections into health system leadership are the kind of thing a Canadian company cannot manufacture on its own.

Where Athel fits

JSF's stated preference is for business models that improve patient outcomes or reduce administrative waste without requiring heavy regulatory cycles. That is a close description of what we built.

Athel conducts the clinical interview before the visit and hands the physician a structured, prioritized history. It reduces administrative waste directly, at the point where it accumulates fastest. And because Athel provides clinical decision support intended to assist healthcare professionals — staging every summary for physician review rather than diagnosing or auto-filing — its applicable functions are intended to qualify as non-device clinical decision support under applicable U.S. and Canadian regulatory frameworks.

For a fund that avoids long regulatory timelines on principle, that structure is not incidental. It is the reason the fit works.

What this funds

We are in early access with a selective cohort of clinics across Canada and the United States. This investment supports that expansion: more clinics, more specialties covered by our protocol library, and deeper integration work with the EMR systems those clinics already run.

Our thanks to the team at Jumpstart Foundry. We are glad to be building alongside them.

Athel provides clinical decision support intended to assist healthcare professionals and does not independently diagnose, treat, or replace clinical judgment.
