The problem

  1. 01

The history eats the first appointment

Psychiatric, medication and family history can take most of a new patient visit, leaving little time for assessment and the plan.

  2. 02

Rating scales on paper, or skipped

Scales are handed out on clipboards, scored by hand, or skipped when the clinic is busy, and rarely reach the chart.

  3. 03

Referral calls fill the phone line

New referrals, intake questions and rescheduling arrive all day, and the person answering them is also running the front desk.

Link to chart. Three steps.

How it works

  1. Step 01

The patient opens a link or scans a QR code.

  2. Step 02

Athel runs the psychiatric interview and adapts to every answer.

  3. Step 03

You open a structured history in your EMR before you walk in.

The interview. What it covers.

08 topics

  1. Presenting concerns and current symptoms
  2. Psychiatric history and prior diagnoses
  3. Past treatment, medications and response
  4. Substance use
  5. Family psychiatric history
  6. Social situation: home, work, supports
  7. Safety questions
  8. Rating scales, delivered as conversation

Patients answer at home, at their own pace, and the protocol is calibrated for sensitive topics. Athel gathers the history. You keep the mental status exam and the plan.

Routine visits and urgent moments. Both are planned for.

Safety

Routine

  1. 1The patient completes the pre-visit form and a short interview at home, in their own time.
  2. 2Athel writes a structured report: history, medications, substance use and the safety questions the clinic chose to include.
  3. 3The report is in your EMR before the visit. You review it and decide what to explore in person.

If something urgent comes up

  1. 1The patient mentions thoughts of suicide or self-harm, harming someone else, or being in danger.
  2. 2Athel stops asking questions right away and gives them 988 (call or text, free, 24/7), or 911 if they are in immediate danger.
  3. 3The session ends so they can reach out, and the clinic is alerted. The report is marked urgent and opens with a Risk section.

Athel never counsels, assesses risk, or asks about plans or means. Every interview also opens and closes with the 988 and 911 information.

Questions. Answered.

07 questions

01What happens if a patient reports thoughts of self-harm?

Athel stops the interview immediately. The patient is told to call or text 988, which is free and available 24/7, or to call 911 if they are in immediate danger, and the session ends so they can reach out. The clinic is alerted and the report is marked urgent, with a Risk section at the top before the clinical summary. Athel never counsels the patient, assesses risk, or asks about plans or means. Each clinic decides whether safety questions appear on the written form or in the interview.

02Does this replace my AI scribe?

No. Athel takes the history before the visit and handles the phones, which a scribe does not do. It works alongside the AI scribe you already use.

03What does the psychiatric intake cover?

The interview covers presenting concerns, psychiatric history, past treatment and medications, substance use, family history, social situation and safety questions. Rating scales are delivered as part of the conversation instead of a separate form.

04Does Athel replace the psychiatric assessment?

No. Athel gathers the history before the first appointment so the visit can focus on assessment. The psychiatrist keeps the mental status exam and the plan.

05How does Athel handle sensitive topics?

The mental health protocol is calibrated for sensitive topics, and patients answer privately at home, at their own pace.

06Which rating scales are included?

Validated scales including PHQ-9, GAD-7, PCL-5, AUDIT-C, DAST-10, ASRS, MDQ and EPDS. Clinics can also send their existing intake forms and Athel builds them into the interview.

07Who answers new referral calls?

Athel's AI receptionist answers every call 24/7, including new referral and intake calls after hours. It books appointments and handles refill requests.
